Who We Are

The group first started out as an idea of Mr. Shawn Smith as a group of about 4 boys beating on drums during a school pep rally during the 2009 school year. The group of boys were allowed to play whatever they could come up with. Mr. Smith decided to refine their sound and image and got his hands on 5 marching band drums donated by a close friend of his.  He took this group of five drummers to one of their school's football games against a rival school, and the group was an instant hit.  Mr. Smith recalls saying "Wow even the fans of the other school were dancing and were impressed by what they heard from the drummers".  One parent went as far to say "if they had dancers they would be awesome".

From that idea of incorporating dancers, there was a tryout for dancers a few short weeks later. Only 12 girls tried out, and all 12 made it. The group totaled 17, and performed at 5 events in the Durham area that year.

Presently, the group totals 36, with 13 drummers and 23 dancers.  The group presently has performed at over 65 events all over the east coast since its 2009 inaugural year.

The group is comprised of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys and girls that come from a variety of social and ethnic backgrounds.

The group mantra is "Ready To Take Over", which is printed on the official group t-shirt. The term means to do something better than what someone else is already doing, or has done! The kids in this group are taught discipline, hardwork, and to become the best performer they can possibly be.
